Radio galaxies in Very-High Energy Gamma-rays(pdf)

Observations of radio galaxies, in the Very-High Energy (VHE) gamma-ray band, will enable studies of the processes in relativistic jets and in the vicinity of supermassive black holes. Centaurus A, M 87 and 3C 120 are some of the radio galaxies that have been observed with H.E.S.S. (High-Energy Stereoscopic System). Reverberation mapping using gamma-gamma absorption signatures in the high-energy and VHE gamma-ray emission from radio galaxies can be used to derive constraints on the location of the gamma-ray emission region and thus the processes leading to the acceleration of particles to ultrarelativistic energies. I report on the progress of our program of using H.E.S.S. and Fermi-LAT observations of Centaurus A, combined with observations at lower energies (including X-ray monitoring by Swift-BAT).
