Testing the FlashCam prototype camera for CTA(pdf)

The Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA) is an international project which uses earth-bound Imaging Air Cherenkov Telescopes to measure very-high energy pho- tons interacting in our atmosphere. FlashCam is a PMT-based camera for the medium-sized telescopes of CTA and is an attempt to produce a robust, main- tainable camera with full digital read-out via commercial FADCs and FPGAs as well as photomultiplier tubes to limit costs. The FlashCam group is now constructing the first prototype of the camera and started testing its functionality at the Max Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics in Heidelberg. This contribution will show the basic concept of FlashCam and first results of the prototype testing.
